Thanks to 1st Lutheran for hosting this wonderful food packaging event. We had a great team from St. Andrew’s this Saturday morning to package nutritious meals to be sent overseas.
Stop Hunger Now! is a fantastic organization, and they began our event with a talk on world hunger. I learned this morning that at least 1 billion folks experience hunger at any given time, and that each day 25,000 die from hunger or malnutrition-related illnesses.
But what really impressed me was the approach that Stop Hunger Now takes with distribution. The food we packaged today will be sent to schools, thereby meeting nutritional needs but also making school attendance possible in places that where it can’t be taken for granted. They’ve learned that the best way to raise living standards is by keeping young people (young women especially) in school for as long as possible.
It was a great morning of service and learning. Thanks to our brothers and sisters at 1st Lutheran for their hospitality!
